I'll be honest, I've never seen anything with her other than Doctor Who, so I probably can't comment.

Tonight's episode was incredible! First class writing, and the moral dilemma at its heart was a real emotional roller-coaster!

There have been pictures of Tennant filming the Christmas special, and the offical BBC press releases claim he's in for all the 2009 specials. Official press releases aren't allowed to lie, so i'd say that line was more of a deliberate red herring.
