Glad to hear there are some other Sandy Denny fans here. She has a real shivers down the spine voice, made all the more haunting by her tragic early death. I'll have to route out my copies of 'Fotheringay' and 'Liege and Lief' now.

Cheers Baron.

That's a really beautiful song. I'm a bit of a folkie (Tim Buckley, Bert Jansch, Nick Drake.. ) but never got around to checking out Fairport Convention. That'll have to be redressed.

A Mighty Wind is not as funny as the Tap admittedly, but it's actually the song lyrics that crack me up most of all. 'Blood on the Coal', ho ho.

ohh yea youl be wanting
what we did on our holidays
unhalf bricking
the absolute BEST liege and liefe
those were all the ones that sandy did with the band(the first time round)
full house is pretty good(get the extended reissue, "poor will and hte jolly hangman" has some amazing guitar/mandolin parts)

liege and liefe is really good and kind of recognised as their masterwork

you have an exciting band to discover(or you might hate them, you never know)

Yep I look forward to them. Kind of reminds me of Bert Jansch and Pentangle so I'm sure I'll dig 'em. Now if only we could invent a paisley coloured time machine....

the paisley time machine would have to have a tascheomotere though
so you could set your facial hair to suit the times

yes some wannanbe inventor actually passed off a pair of second-hand glasses with selataped on cardboard side-bits as.. wait for it.. sideburn templates which you could pay thirty squid for! This was back in the early days of QVC, still you've got to admire the entrepenurial spirit. Although you could probably invent your own pair had you paid enough attention to Blue Peter.

Hmm I havce always been realy wary of inventions made of cardboard, especially if it involves scissors

althoguh i think that hairdressers have a pathological dislike of sideburns, or is it just me

AHHHH
cool cool, sandy denny is perhaps one of my alltime favourite singers.
it all depends on wether or not you like her folk stuff or more ballady type stuff.

if you only had to get two albums of hers i would go for
Liege and lief/fairport(the word seminal applies here and other long words like it)
thats very folky, but worth buying for matty groves(the whole album is ace of course but taht song is great, nice little violent folk song)

then I would go for "north star grassmen and the raven" which is also really good, although less folky, their are a lot of bootlegs floating around but start with those two albums and see how you go.

if you still have any dosh left over buy what we did on ou holidays and unhalf bricking.

which are also great but not excellent.

hmmm I suppose that this is a bit biased as i absolutely love her voice, but you can always check out some free lips of the songsonline

hope that was helpful!!!

yea let me know what you think

liege and lief is the kind of album that can really make you think, or it wont and you will hate it,
but anyway it took me awhile to get into.
but i suppose i have given you really high hopes now.
or it may just be the grandad side of my musical taste coming out
