Just wondering who everyone's favourite nominee is?

Bat for Lashes would be my choice and I've just heard this fantastic collaboration with Maps and Fionn Regan; Primal Scream's 'Higher Than The Sun'.

See what you think Smiler

do they have a category for most anticipated reunion? so many bands recently it would be quite interesting/ depressing to watch the awards speech from an inevitable "take that" member.

They don't have categories at all; it's just a single award for album of the year, as always.

Although I wouldn't put it past the Brits awards to add a category like that next year...

I'd like to see either Artic Monkeys or Young Knives win. Amy Winehouse's music is very well executed for what it is, but I can't say I actually enjoy listening to it that much (and the tabloid soap opera she's turning into doesn't help.) Klaxons and The View are ok, I guess. Don't really have an opinion / awareness of the others.

Oscars are indeed, the only ones that count. Everything else is a practice shot to the real event.

thank you thank you, maybe we should start a petition for "Musical Oscars" we could run the event ourselves with sarahs oragnising skills and kula could sweep the board in all catgories, best live band, best girl band, best dress sense...

The Grammys and the Brits don't have the impact of the Oscars, but they are still pretty high profile and non-shite awards ceremonies (well doubtless there's arguments that award ceremonies are inherently shite, but you know what I mean, er.. culturally significant)

I would really like the Young Knives to win, that album is great. Failing that, probably Klaxons as the only other one I've really listened to. Couldn't be bothered with more Arctic Monkeys.

Surprised to see the Klaxons win it; but they've grown on me lately so I can't say I find it that scandalous. When I first heard them last year I thought they were utterly dreadful, but now they've actually bothered to write a few songs I have more time for them.

The result was a bit of an anti-climax but the show was great with twelve live performances, most of them entertaining, and Jo Whiley is always pleasant to watch. Wink

Bat for lashes were robbed though!

I think it pretty much measures up to the usual Mercury criteria - they do tend to pick fairly decent albums as a rule, and it's harmless enough as a rewards ceremony, so I don't mind it. Myths of the Near Future is great, but I feel that Test Icicles paved the way for the Klaxons...and they were much better live than the Klaxons. I saw the latter at Glastonbury, and it was embarrassing for all concerned.

The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming.
