What would you see? (Not counting Kula Shaker) I am curious to begin compiling opinions of what's worthwhile. Oh, and when I say UK, I really mean England, Scotland & Wales. Thanks! Smiler

Cornwall and Stonehenge. Its thousands of years old, and there's something so mystical about it, to this day no one knows how they did it..

I've got some news - Everybody's going down!

Borrowdale valley.

Its in the lake district. There are some nice fells and some really cool places to put up a tent and be in the thick of it.

At a place called Stonethwaite there is a crystal clear stream that you can camp along side and even bathe in.

A place called Grange Fell is in the heart of the lake district and it only takes 45 mins to climb.

Also Buttermere is stunning. There are some really nice and steep drives too.

Actually there is also a druid circle not too far away.

All in all not too far from Grassmere and Ambleside. You can visit Wordsworths grave too.

Go to the Lakes if you aint already done so!

You come to Cardiff to see me and the Doctor Who exhibition.

We also have a vodka bar now if you like that sort of nonsense.

Thank you folks for the recommendations so far! Smiler There is certainly no lack of choice of things to do and see (have been reading travel books in my spare time). However, the funding and time aspects are a bit more limited - such is why I have asked for advice. Perhaps I would have been better off to ask for your "top 3" or something like that. Smiler Unless of course, someone wants to sponsor us and pay for our lodging and whatnot for an extra bit of time. Razzer

Follow-up questions:
CORNWALL - just 'cuz it's pretty? what makes it so great?
LAKE DISTRICT - I've heard it's not exactly easy to get in or out of - is this true? (side note: the other half isn't much for camping!)
DOCTOR WHO: When on earth are the new episodes going to start?!? Sick of waiting!

LONDON: How long do you think you really need to see "the essentials"? Obviously it would be possible to spend a whole 2 weeks JUST in London, but... we'd like to venture further than that.

I think 3-4 days in London would be the absolute minimum if you were doing 2 weeks in the UK. Just to tick off all the touristy things and go on a bus tour would probably take 2 days. Then you have the galleries and museums, obviously that's according to your taste but if you have any interest in art or history at all there's a handful that are essential and more that are very good.

Cornwall is recognised as an area of natural beauty (not to say others don't think some parts of england are more beautiful) it is unique but then I guess so are a few other areas of England too. It's really quite magical and pagan and Arthurian and christian and all that.. hard to describe.

Here's some pics http://www.cornwallpictures.co.uk/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land%27s_End is there and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lizard where Kula played
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmoor is actually in Devon but if you were going to Cornwall it'd be on the way
There are really cool places like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tintagel and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boscastle and all this. ...

Well I think it's cool anyway.

You're not wrong 2-J, would definitely also recommend Cornwall, it has a terrific coastline. Dartmoor is another good shout. Beautiful scenery with a number of interesting villages tucked away (personal fave is Widdecombe in the Moor).

I would definitely recommend Lake District, and I don't think it's that complicated to get to, as well. When I was with my family in the UK in 98 we went by car there, and it was damn beautiful.

But I s'pose you better ask advice from someone who's been there a bit more recently Smiler

(As for Doctor Who, March hopefully! *wants* Bethy, I want a Doctor Who exhibition too!! )

RE The Lakes.

If you can get yourself a car you have cracked it.
If not get yourself to Keswick and it would take about an hour to walk right into Borrowdale valley. Maybe another 2-3 hrs to walk right through it to Buttermere.

There are so many walks in that area you are spoilt for choice.
