Dear oh dear, talk about waste of time
Arctic Monkeys 3 awards Kate Nash best solo artist The Enemy ( Pete Doherty 'hero' of the year!! Think any insults from NME towards KS would be most welcome in my view...I wouldn't want KS associated with such a pile of tosh. |

What a load of shite.. lol. Arctic Monkeys I can't really criticise them but they don't do anything for me, certainly.

Yeh, each to their own I guess but I find the Arctic Monkeys to be one of the most overrated bands around. |

NME are vile. And so are those artists they love to award every year.
And what the hell is a 'hero of the year' award? He's right up there with Kate Nash for being the most obnoxious person in British music. ____________________________ www.myspace.com/kshaker (The Official Kula Shaker Myspace) www.myspace.com/backtome (The Official K Myspace) |

Having given up on NME twenty years ago - Melody Maker was always SOOO much better - I hadn't bothered to see who won the "awards". However, how talentless shites like Pete Doherty can be given a "Hero Of the Year" award is beyond me. I would say I wish he'd go off and snort half a kilo and leave the world a better place, but then there would be pillocks like the staff at the NME who would just use this "untimely waste of talent" as an excuse to inflate his lack of worth even more. On the other hand, good to see James, Nicky and Sean getting something, even if its only from the NME, although putting Richey on the cover is just their way of cashing in on the 4REAL incident, which was the only reason Richey is remembered. Sorry, but as a longtime fan of nearly 20 years, he was not some great hero, just a below average rhythm guitarist who couldn't be trusted to play live, so his amp was always barely audible. His lyrics were OK at best, but like Doherty, his worth as a musician has been confused with his media value. |

i kinda share your opinion on richey, boombox. it's a bit embarrassing when people go on about him these days as it really has nothing to do with the band or their music. i'm certainly not saying that he contributed little to the band, or that their earlier stuff is shite, but i think the post-holy bible stuff is where it's at.

^ I disagree there.
Holy Bible is my favourite Manics album and Richey is one of the best lyricst of all time. James always says in interviews that he sometimes finds it hard to play without Richey playing a couple barre chords. I was about 2 when he disapeared so i don't remember hi first time round. I still know a lot about Richey and see him a lot more than just the 4REAL guy. He brought a lot into the band and that showed after he diserpeared. He's was coolest during the 'Generation Terrorists'era with the Richey and Nicky glam twins, panda eyes leporard skin. NME putting Richey on the cover the week was really good. Believe it or not i have friends who actaully use NME as bible and it was great them coming into school discussing Richey and the manics with me other than 'He was anorexic self harming retard, he's a bad influence.'They even came to understand my obession. I honestly see post Richey stuff as almost a diffirent band. Which is true for years they were a bit whiny and bland. (I still love some of the post Richey stuff.) I love their latest album 'Send away the tigers' I feel they've found their new sound and who they are again. It's the best album since Everything must go. *comes back with the promise of blue moon cheese*
Ah the Manics discussion. It comes back every so often! As a fan from pretty much the beginning (I started young, what can I say!) I can actually honestly say that I find Holy Bible quite overrated. As poetry, yes it is astounding, however as a music album it doesn't hold its own for me. I much prefer Gold Against The Soul and Generation Terrorists. My friend Cherry disowns me whenever we have this conversation! I really like the post-Richey stuff. Everything Must Go has a very special place for me, lots of memories of 1996 flooding back. I am especially pleased that Send Away The Tigers was so good after the quite awful Lifeblood. Sorry Evan, I didn't enjoy it at all! Where has Evan gone? We need him to talk Manics! _________________________ Start wearing purple for me now |

I agree the current album is the best since everything must go, but I'm definitely with beth on this - the first two albums are still the best things they did.
Still, to each their own. At least we can all agree that they seem to have found their way again. Now, if only Stuart would get back with the 'phonics!! |
