Shadowlands and Hurricane Season.

In Shadowlands you hear some sort of intertwined rhythms/tempos between verses or during intervals. I've no idea how that's done, but it sounds beautiful.

And the rhythm/beat in Hurricane Season is unusual, it's not a common quadruple time like most of the songs you can hear everywhere.

I'm not quite sure about the musical terms, I'm just wondering if anyone has noticed the same thing, or is it just me who thinks they sound special?

No, you're right, "Hurricane Season" is rhythmically quite complex. I was discussing it with Pitry on here before, and her conclusion was that it switches between 5/8, 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures. I'm sure she's right, although whenever I try and count all the way through I usually get lost somewhere in the middle. It must be a tough one to play live, especially for Pauli (since he's the one leading the others.) Actually I remember Crispian announcing it live the first few times by saying that it was hard to play and they were likely to mess it up (I don't think they ever did get it badly wrong though...)

To be honest I don't remember much about Shadowlands; I'd have to go back to listen to it again to remind myself of how it goes.

hello, drykid!

I'm sorry it's taken too long for me to come back to this post. I've been listening to some 7/8 time songs today, and that reminds me of this post. Razzer

I'm sure she is right - "it switches between 5/8, 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures". This can be very difficult to play live, I'm glad they've done it well.

I discovered this, a 5/8 time song as well, I'm terribly fascinated with it. Big Grin

Did you listen to Shadowlands afterwards?

sorry I was wrong. The song from the link is more likely a 5/4 time one.

No, it's my brother's old house-mate's band. Mike joice from the smiths plays drums for them. They are good - glad you liked it. I recomend the album, it's better than the myspace songs suggest. Smiler
