This may or may not be of interest to people here. It was to me as I was a big fan of both The Aardvarks and The Kays and remember the occasion.

Here is footage of Jay Darlington guesting with The Aardvarks on The James Whale Show - late night TV in the mid '90s.

I have to say the nerves appear to be showing here - they were a lot more dynamic at gigs!

Jay Darlington - Aardvarks

Looking forward to the new stuff,

Cheers Charlie

Cool - thanks for the link. I remember you talking about this performance before and wishing I could see it, so it's nice to finally get the chance. I don't have sound here at work, but Jay certainly looks a lot younger in it. I'll listen properly when I get home.

So this would've been recorded during the time Jay was playing with the others as The Kays?

The song they're playing they released as a single in 1989 but re-recorded for their album in 1993 which was finally released in 1995. The fact that Jason's on bass makes me think this is tail end of 1994 beginning of 1995. I could be more precise if I could find that list of Kays/Kula Shaker gigs as I remember talking about it to The Kays' "manager" at the time at The Monarch (now Barfly) in Camden.

So in short yes he was playing with The Kays at the time.

Cheers
Charlie

Just listened to it. Was expecting Psych / Garage for some reason, rather than something that's closer to the music hall-styled pop Bowie was doing circa "Love You Till Tuesday". I can see why it would have had no chance of commercial success in '89, given how out-of-odds it would've been with prevailing trends back then.

I liked it though Smiler

what a brilliantly silly song, i have to point out. Smiler I didn't know Jay played with them...

IT does make me re-appreciate Jay though, I've come to take him for granted now, which I shouldn't, he's a brilliant keyboard player.

Thanks for posting this!
