Well it wasn't hugely great what he said, but it was a mention! Haha. According to the NME...he said

“Hey everybody, thanks very much for the Brit Award,” he said. “It really is an honour to be recognised alongside the likes of Huey Lewis And The News, Culture Club, MC Hammer and Kula Shaker."

“These are all people who have won Brit Awards. I’m glad to see we’ve graduated to such lofty ranks. Sorry we couldn’t be there, but we’ve just sold out Madison Square Garden."

Dave Grohl is in Foo Fighters - they're very good. Dave Grohl was in Nirvana - they were very good.

Dave Grohl was slagging Kula Shaker off at the Brits - that's not very good. And completely unnecessay.

Dave Grohl can fuck off! Mad

Yeah, Nirvana were good. Better when they were playing more quietly, like the MTV unplugged performance, but they were nice. Wink

It's a bit pathetic really. His whole attitude seems to be "this award is so meaningless that I can't take it seriously", so why even bother recording an acceptance speech? I can only think his record company really do call the shots.

I never did think much of Foo Fighters. They're not terrible, but the fact that their main creative force is Nirvana's ex-drummer tells you everything you need to know.

He probably doesn't hate Kula, it's just a lazy cliche of a sad band to reach for, isn't it..

I use'd to be a fan of Foo Fighters but have really gone off them. Their first few albums were really raw and honest but they probably were'nt getting quite the success that David Grohl wanted. The last couple of albums sound like really heavily contrived stadium rock that is marketable and popular. 'Best Of You' sounds like it would work on a toothpaste ad and a lot of the new stuff sounds like it wouldn't be out of place on a crappy american action movie. Which is a shame for a band that are obviously extremly talented.

This makes his (probably just off the cuff) comments about KS very amusing, considering that in this second incarnation they are probably trying to avoid a lot of what Foo Fighters are trying to achieve. Integrity and substance easily gets left behind when you simply want to be popular.

Well, yeah. They're not particularily bad for their genre, but much liek maxwelldemon said, they went for popular rather than integrity, which makes them quite boring, IMO. that's the thing thouigh - especially when (obviously) compared to Nirvana - Nirvana managed to be popular while still doing their own thing.

Mmm, actually I admit to be quite surprised, I know in the UK it's costumary to reach out for Kula when you're looking for hte "sad" example, but they're an American band, I didn't expect an American band to act the same.

He obviously hasn't seen KS live recently then?? The Brits are a farce anyway, some really terrible stuff getting awards last night. I caught the Amy Winehouse solo performance and promptly turned off the tv.

p.s i dont mind Foo Fighters, they've done some great stuff (but some pretty average stuff too). I doubt Dave Grohl's heard much KS music anyway.
