-Magic Theatre-
Greetings. So just as we were all primed, lines learned, pencils sharpened, costumes ready, lights, smoke and all other stage parafernalia sorted and primed the director called us together. A change of plan. A reconsideration… We have all decided that there was something not quite right with the Magic Theatre project. Something slightly amiss that we could not put our finger on. The whole Magic Theatre story is, in and of itself, a great piece of work by Jason and something that I was really looking forward to working on. However. If this project is to go ahead it has to be absolutely right and totally aligned with the whole Kula Shaker thing. For this reason we are currently in two spaces. One: We are talking with all concerned about a completely different approach to creating a Kula Shaker printed project. It is going to tie in far more closely with the upcoming album and everything that will be generated around that. Two: The Magic Theatre graphic novel is looking for a new home and you can rest assured that you will all be the first to know in what form it will appear and when. Watch this space for more news soon. Thanks Andrew power, fun, creativity, love |

That's a shame... so the Magic Theatre thing will happen, but it won't be inspired by Kula Shaker any more? I was looking forward to it too. Still at least they're working on something else KS related, so all is not lost.

That is very weird to have gone so far down the road... even to announcing it, then changing heart. Hope it wasn't the bitchy comments on here that swung it!?!?
I am still looking forward to the KS-related graphics no matter what form they take. An illustrated book of lyrics, now, that'd be sweet. But anything really... __________________________________________________________________ I'm an A1 major-league sociopath http://www.gorillaz-unofficial.com http://www.myspace.com/gorillaz http://www.kulashaker.net |

I suppose it may have been an issue of time and rushing things out in time for the album's release. If that's only going to be a couple of months, then you could understand if they didn't want to rush things. It's a real shame though! I was really looking forward to it, and thought it would work as a great promotional tie-in working as a whole new creative expirience. God, I'm going to have to start writing press-releases!
Like 2-J says, a book of illustrated lyrics would be great, but if they're going to really tie in with the new record, they'd better hurry! Incidently, is there any news on the new album? It's been almost a month since we had the last album-related message with the pictures... _________________________ Mark Charlesworth: Sunise and Shorelines. The new book, OUT NOW! i was really looking forward to it also and didn't see what the problem people had with it being worked on was! "i'de rather have the album" people said, well i'de rather have had both.Though yes the album will be brilliant it have!

i'm not attacking the mighty graphic novel, yet a graphic novel based around kula shaker music of the 90's did seem a trifle ill-advised. however the possible link between the new stuff and a graphic project does sound much more interesting.

Its great to hear that you guys were all up for the graphic novel. It is a shame its not happening at this time anymore, but there will be some KS related art work, some promo stuff etc, dad is in discussions with Mr Mills at the mo. They conect really well on an artistic level, they both felt there was something missing from the magic theatre story but couldnt find what it was, hence the whole last minute cancelation, it was strange to go ahead and announce it and then cancel it but then again this is the darling crispian we are talking about
They are on the way to completing the album..so fingers crossed it will be here in feb.. Best E xx power, fun, creativity, love |

I think some artwork inspired by the music would be much better than trying to ascribe a plot/story to the music and lyrics. I could go for artwork, that sounds quite nice.

It'd be nice to have some illustrated lyrics / album artwork or something, but if something was going to be in the actual record sleeve, it'd have to be very tastefully done, as I've always liked Kula Shaker's artistic direction before, and they'd do well to keep their strong, unique sense of artistic identity for the new record (I'd be pretty horrified if something like the sleeve for Cowboys and Indians were to grace a Kula Shaker album- it worked for The Jeevas though cause they were always more fun)! I'm sure whatever comes out of it'll be good though if Crispian's involved. I really love the web-site homepage picture and think it'll make a great album cover if they decide to use it... and it'd look great on a t-shirt!
Glad to hear the new album's well on it's way! Roll on February. Also, wonder what the chances are of a pre Christmas single or something? Perhaps just as a download... Thanks for the update, Esther! _________________________ Mark Charlesworth: Sunise and Shorelines. The new book, OUT NOW! Available on Amazon.co.uk |

I agree it a shame the Magic Theatre collaboration has been cancelled but maybe there is a chance the new album might be released in a similar format to the School of Braja book which I know a lot of peaople on here, including me, really liked.

Oh, yeah. Now that would be nice! A few bands have done that recently with their albums, and it really does make them look something quite special!

AAAH You Idiots!!!!
A graphic novel/series of graphic novels based on Kula Shakers songs ect was a fantastic and needed idea. I really want this whole Kula Shaker reunion to result in something special and projects like Magic theatre would in my mind achieve that. |
