Drums and everything sound so clear.

Hmmm well they were both recorded on Hi-MD in wav... which is like minidisc, but better.

But that said, I don't think the difference between Hi-MD and minidisc would be apparent with my setup (i.e. my mic and my recorder). They are just alright quality because it's minidisc (essentially) with an alright (but not great) microphone.

I think that's true now, but there was a time not so long ago when people could make a living from filming / taping gigs and selling them at record fairs and places like Camden Market (until they got busted, that is...)
I think that what's happened over the last few years is that there's been a big increase in internet sources for such things, and what market there used to be has pretty much died off. I know sites like dimeadozen see putting commercial bootleggers out of business as something of a badge of honour. And I can't say I disagree.

Well neither the band nor the label make money from second hand singles. If people want to own the singles then an mp3 download won't provide a substitute to that anyway.

I'm not saying that people are ripping off the band by downloading b-sides, just that they're being cheapskates, and I guess I see that as something to be discouraged rather than indulged. I suppose I just don't understand why people wouldn't want to own all the singles, with all the lovely artwork and everything. They can still rip them to mp3 afterwards if it's a convenience thing.

But I've said all this before *shuts up*

I see your point.
However - as a person who went really as far as she could to lay hands on KS singles, it's not as easy. And yes, some of them I ended up finding in a second hand store - years after I already had the b-sides in at leasdt 2 differnet places, and I bought it anyway cos it's KS. Like I bought both versions of SYL in order to get Goodbye Tin Terriers which I already had (and of course fell on the faulty version! GAH).

My point is - it's hard. It's even harder when you're not from the UK (I still don't have Sound of Drums, for example). I can see James' point about not requesting the new singles - which is why I, for example, am going to wait til October rather than try and get the Second Sight b-sides now by downloading them - just like I bought Strangefolk even tho I downloaded the leaked version. But these days, finding the Hey Dude or Tattva Lucky 13 or Sound of Drums singles is near damn impossible, especially first hand.[/QUOTE

I have had the same problem, not being in the UK but eil.com have been very helpful but not cheap, I might add. But like you, I wanted the lot. Only one was faulty and they changed it no problem. Good luck Pitry

Christine... you spoke my mind. Well said. I first heard kula when I was 14 years old in jr. high school in the USA. It was a fluke I heard them too (radio at 2:00 AM.. it was Hey Dude). But I went out and bought K, then PPA, then Summer Sun, and so on. I have paid for all their albums, and even some singles I have (Hush/Govinda/Hey Dude/Tattva) but some of the singles/b-sides are just damn near impossible for me to get a hold of.

Alas, I am 24 now, I have a few more resources. I am just as loyal, still pay for all their new stuff. I even buy multiple copies so I don't feel as guilty. The band has prob made well over 200 dollars off of me already. Not bad. I think at this point in time I have 95% of all their songs, including b-sides. I couldn't be happier. But I stiiiiill want that last 5%.

So my point being... don't be so mad at me for DLing 3 songs which I would have NEVER found unless they were made available here. Plus I think Kula would want their true fan base to hear these and wouldn't really mind if we grabbed a few of them. Am I wrong?

Lastly, I could buy some of the singles on e-bay, but I'd most likely not be supporting the band, but rather some guy who burned the songs to his computer and is making 20 bucks off of me. So.. that's my two cents. Sorry if I sound angry/confrontational/annoyed. I am not, I am just giving you my POV. Something you must deal with. Roll Eyes Big Grin

Seriously you're kidding yourself if you think that. I'd be amazed if anyone was selling fake copies of these singles on eBay. The supply of the real thing in the UK outstrips demand to the point where there's no incentive whatsoever for anyone to sell fake copies of them. I wish it weren't the case, but it is.

If you need help in obtaining any of these "damn near impossible" to obtain singles, then let me know which ones you're after, and I'll see what I can do to help getting them to you.

I don't have it, though I humbly request it if someone does have it!!

I had it on tape at one point... if I dug through many boxes and boxes of stuff that have gone untouched since my uni days I might be able to find it, though it'd only be on tape then. Pitry sent a gig to me with it on, way back when!

I don't see any harm in DLing some b-sides that are off out-of-print albums. It's true KS wouldn't get any money off second hand sellers anyway. As long as we support the band by buying their new material.
