I posted three tracks from the BBC broadcast of this before, and I said at the time that I hoped to get hold of the full broadcast from BBC-i. Anyway, I finally got it, courtesy of joefish (who won't be reading this, but he deserves credit anyway) who not only capped this, but also converted it into a proper DVD with menus so you can select individual tracks.

Like the 3 tracks I posted, this is a cap from the digital broadcast straight to file via a PC, so to all intents and purposes it should be identical to the original BBC broadcast in resolution and bitrate. As it's already mastered for DVD, you can use Nero or the like to burn it straight to a DVD to watch on your TV. Alternatively you can watch it on your PC by using VLC Media Player and the "open directory..." (not "open file..."!) option, which will detect it as a collection of DVD files, and play it properly with the menus.

It all comes to over 1GB, so this is probably only for those on broadband, But I hope someone finds it useful Smiler

Track listing:

00:00:00:00 Interview
00:00:37:16 Hey Dude
00:06:31:22 303
00:10:08:03 Diktator Of The Free World
00:13:59:16 Tattva
00:18:36:22 6ft Down
00:23:27:18 Hush
00:26:32:01 Govinda

file one
file two
file three
file four
file five
file six
file seven
file eight
file nine
file ten
file eleven

What makes you say that? There's no reason any modern PC (i.e. something from the last ten years or so) shouldn't be able to play it. It might be that you just need the right software.

VLC player plays everything to the extent that... if you somehow managed to cram a VHS video into your comp's CD drive.. it'd probably have a bash at that as well Cool

I'm a big fan of VLC these days. I used to be a bit suspicious of it, but what I really like is that it's not dependent on seperately-installed codecs for it to play files. The problem with WMP, media player classic et al is that whether or not they'll play a given file is largely dependent on what else you've got installed on your PC. With VLC you can recommend it to someone with difficulty playing a file, knowing that it almost certainly will work for them regardless of how their machine is set up.

As for ROTK, I'm not sure if it was played or not. Although there's a dodgy looking edit after Diktator..., so I wouldn't be surprised if something was cut out. If the BBC did cut it then I imagine it would have been for technical problems with the recording rather than for any other reason.

Revenge seems to have been gradually phased out a bit from gigs recently. I hope it's on the album. I know we've got the 'garage' version of it, but it deserves a chance to appear in all it's glory. I always thought a bit of an extended into and a better production would put it up there with the classics.

By the way, if anyone's interested, I put a great You Tube live version of Die for love on my myspace profile at:

www.myspace.com/earthsgreatestgentleman

It certainly surpasses any of the bootlegs and it looks as though it's a TV clip from the Fuji Rock festival. I really like this version- it now sounds like it's truly come into its own. Definitely a great kula track now, rather than a superior Bob Dylan style thing!

I can't access that right now, but it sounds like it might be from the same TV source as the version I uploaded before (which also included "Grateful When You're Dead"):

Yeah, that'll be the one. Sorry, didn't realise it'd had already been put up. I must watch it about 5 times a day. It sounds great! There's a definite sound developed for the new Kula Shaker now- you can hear a definite theme, musically and lyrically in Die for love, Craving heart and On the highway- all great tracks. And I'm sure the rest of the record'll match up to it.

Anyone else having a problem with part nine? My antivirus says something about a BAT/MouseDis Trojan and won't let me get at it. If I turn off the a-v and download again, it says the source file can't be read. All the other parts came through fine. Dang. Any ideas? By the way, thanks for all the cool vids Drykid!

False positive virus matches aren't that unusual; these programs just associate a string of bytes with a particular virus, but there's usually no reason why the same string of bytes can't also appear in a totally harmless file, which is obviously the case here.

I don't understand why though it didn't download once you switched off the virus checker. I know that all parts uploaded ok to begin with because I downloaded them just to verify they'd all gone up. So unless once has since become corrupted I think the source of the problem is more likely to be something to do with your PC. What says the source file can't be read? Winrar?

Thanks for the reply. I finally got it to work. For some reason part nine was downloading to the desktop as two files, the RAR and something with extension .PART, even though the download manager said the source file couldn't be read. But the rar file was 0kb and the PART file had the correct file size. So I just renamed the PART file as a rar and it worked. Great vid! Thanks again.
