Heh it's great. It sounds a bit like a long-lost PP&A B-side to me in feel (though obviously it isn't.)

Video must've taken a lot of effort too, but they've captured the Terry Gilliam style very well indeed, and it fits the subject matter perfectly. Kudos!

I love Crispian's (I think) wonderfully silly vocal bit at 2:38...

The lyrics:

quote:
As we reach the end of our civilisation, it is perhaps a sign of the times that tea-drinnking in our fair land is sadly on the decline. The bye-ways are devoid of any tea, and all you can get is that disgusting drink, coffee. The situation is very grave. Something must be done.

Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on
Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on

Tea is a marvellous drink; everyone loves a nice cup of tea. It breaks through the barriers of class and status, from the worker in the factory canteen to Her Majesty the Queen. Everyone loves a nice cup of tea.

Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on
Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on
Put them on

Sixty-two billion cups of tea were drunk in Britain alone last year. That's not bad, but we can do better than that! Tea offers a moment of transendence away from the mad and frantic world. Tea is a gift from our creator.

Tea comes from God in Heaven
No stinking factory
Drink tea in the morning
Drink tea all day long

Come on everybody, sing it to the world!

Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on
Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on

Drink tea for the love of God
Drink tea, put the kettle on
Put them on

Although having said that I'm not 100% sure about the "put them on" bit.

Now I feel you, feel you near
Take me home"

It's the new national anthem! I think they should have done a proper release, it would catch on as a bit of silliness, especially at this time of year. After all , everyone loves a nice cup of tea. The tea companies would love it, it could be quite a hit. Really, i'm not kidding.

Coffee sucks.

I think if that youtube video is passed around a bit on forums, it could generate qutie a bit of interest actually. But I'm not sure if that's the intention? Since you can only access the page it's linked to by signing up, and the actual video isn't tagged with anything meaningful at all on youtube to help people find it without going via the KS homepage.

I'd post the direct link to the youtube video here so that anyone can watch it / pass it on, but I'm loathe to in case there's a reason it's being done this way (e.g. to collect as many contact details as possible. But I think this video could find an audience beyond the comparitively small number of people who would actually sign-up to watch it.)

Yes, maybe there are plans afoot, or maybe the low key approach is all part of their 'we don't want to be famous again' kind of thing. I'm just glad that in the sea of musical shite that we live in, we still have a band like this who can do something as ......strange ( yet wonderful ). All hail the Shaker!

I know what you mean - I tried searchign for it on youtube myself and came out empty. It seemed as if they went to some trouble to keep it hidden so I wouldn't want to post it at other places, although I'd have loved to as random silliness.
I guess they have their reasons for doing it that way.

Yeah, it's a shame that only member can watch that lovely video. But they say it's a little Christmas present from Kula for member of KS mailing list, so I guess they might put it out so that everyone can watch it when the time comes. But I don't know, they have a reason...

I think they want people to sign up for the mailing list, so I told some of my friends about it. Some of them might join Wink

And thanks for the lyric! Smiler

Strangely, there's also a link to the video from the timesonline website, which in turn links to Passion Pictures (who presumably made the video.) The quality of the video is slightly better there than the youtube one:

Arguably, the catchiest song released in a long time.
