It mentioned on C4 teletext today that Kula Shaker are giving away a free download of their cover of Caribou's 'Melody Day' on their current tour.

I didn't see anything about this at the Bristol gig, and there is nothing on the website, so is C4 mistaken or just ahead of itself?

Nice to see a KS mention on teletext though Smiler

The tour has come and gone and still no news on this.

Anyone?

Well, I can only offer my opinion and nothing else, but it's difficult to believe C4 would be mistaken. The only reason they would print / broadcast something that specific would be if they received a press release to that effect.

But the other explanation (that C4 jumped the gun with something that should still be under wraps) doesn't hold much water either, since the tour is long over now and no-one at any of the gigs saw any mention of a download that I know of.

I'd go for a third interpretation; that it was something planned and initially publicised that either band and / or management had a change of heart over. Simply because that kind of thing seems to be a common occurrence in the KS camp of late.

Actually, in January, Crispian talked about it on an interview of a Japanese mag too. They had a plan to release the song as a free download stuff around the time of the UK tour. But they might have changed the plan... Anyway, C4 has not mistaken Wink

Yeah this is the link
Melody Day

And the link still works.

I edited that down from a file I think drykid grabbed from a fairly HQ (for net radio) net radio source.

For a live song it's pretty smart quality actually and I don't imagine the hypothetical 'official' download of the song would have been that much better.

Yeah, I think I put the original file up. Was too lazy to edit down, so it's good someone did Smiler

We don't know that this download would've been a live version though (did the teletext piece go into specifics? I never saw it.) They recorded a 'proper' (well, almost) version of "Walking The Cow", so anything is possible...

Crispian says on the mag, they'll put a live version's "Melody Day" on the website. Personally, I'd love to hear a proper version of "True Love..." too. I love the song Smiler
