I don't know about anyone else but I think the new album would be much much better if they hadn't put great diktator on it. They should have just had 12 songs or swapped it for revenge of the king or track 5 from freedom lovin people ep. I've never liked the song and i don't think it fits in with the rest of the album. I think the best way to describe it is 'Jeevasy'. Maybe swap super cb too for troubador. Does anyone agree?

i can't understand why it's fashionable to dislike it so. i happen to think it's a great little song... and a clever one at that. the balance in the tone/humour is just right... it could easily have gone too far with the jokey side, aswell as with the hammy politics - as with the original lyric. it's a great improvement on the garage version both musically and lyrically. the wit that shines through is a welcome addition to the kula arsenal.
and the jeevas thing... anything with crispian brings the jeevas to mind. i don't think that's a bad thing either, i love those records. |

I agree that Dictator and 6ft Down are the worst songs on there... Super CB too, though thankfully due to its bonus-track status we're free to consider it not part of the album proper. It seems to be a sentiment shared by many (though not all) on here. There were other, better tracks that could have replaced these two in the running order.

Nah, I like Great Dictator much more than Dictator of the free world and glad its there.
Troubadour is brilliant, but is definitely a B side, Some good reason might have worked, but I'm really getting into Super CB now! Perhaps swap Ol Jack Tarr for Some Good Reason (or Be Merciful!) Look for signs and portents... |

Craving Heart
and Be Merciful were the obvious supersubs, to my mind. Of those we have heard so far (maybe the Second Sight Bsides will be ace). Or Persephone perhaps, but truth be told I have not heard that track yet. __________________________________________________________________ I'm an A1 major-league sociopath http://www.kulashaker.net |

Does anybody have any idea whether or not Craving Heart and Be Merciful have been recorded?

Be Merciful was recorded in the Crispian-solo days, yeah? Post-KS, Pre Jeevas. There was a short sample on the Sony website eons ago. I don't think I've seen evidence that Craving Heart has ever been recorded. "I have waited to be here Now I feel you, feel you near Take me home" |

I think its unlikely that Be Merciful hasn't been recorded. They played it on Faith and Music, and have played it live (though only becuase I requested it) therefore, they must know its popular. And if they've ever seen the boards they must know we keep ranting on about it!
Look for signs and portents... |

my real problem with dictator is not the song, because it has grown on me, its that its been on every release the guys have put out since reforming, i don't think any song should really be aired more than once, granted these were two different version though. on the revenge of the king thing tho, that would cause the same hastle as this, it would be re-releasing the same song again and again, fun? no. i revenge worked as a title track because it was the bands "rebirth" they were stepping back and the song works as a narration to that. kula are more than capable of writing songs unique to each release and they should concentrate on that! oh and antimaterial, they played it at the itunes festival as well, so i think your right that they know its a crowd pleaser, must be the new drop in the sea They say that life is like a journey and the journey is as important as the destination... |

Oh yeah, be merciful i forgot about that. It's a brilliant song, i prefer the crispian solo version to the one they played on faith and music though. It was just acoustic guitar, vocals and some weird synth noises in the background. Don't know what craving heart is though? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Namdab, |

I don't think they should have used great diktator and super cb on FLP ep and strangefolk though. That is just re-releasing the same song again and again. And out on the highway! |

Well FLP EP was Japan's trailer for Strangefolk, just like we have Second Sight in the UK, so it's natural the lead track on it would also be on the album.
I think Super CB ended up on the Japanese Strangefolk as a last-minute thing (possible insistence by the Japanese record company for 'two extra tracks') because the initial album tracklisting indicated that Persephone was going to be the Japan exclusive and Super CB the bonus track elsewhere... so I really don't think it was intentional to have Super CB on the FLP EP and Japanese Strangefolk, it's just that the last minute change with the album tracklisting (whatever precipitated that) after the FLP EP had already been finalised lead to that... And On The Highway acoustic is... a different version to the album version. __________________________________________________________________ I'm an A1 major-league sociopath http://www.kulashaker.net |

You mean you've not heard of the song? They played it a few times last year live. I put a video of it on youtube ages ago, and there's an mp3 around too... "I have waited to be here Now I feel you, feel you near Take me home" |

Cool, i'll have a look on youtube. I might have seen it live but can't remember what it sounds like.

I like Dictator- think it fits well, and the new recording sounds wonderfully retro. Not wild on 6Ft Down Blues but it's OK I guess. Super CB Operator's ok as a bonus track, but all the Tchad Blake produced songs seem a little weak compared to the rest. Anyone agree? Was quite surprised about this as Tchad would generally be considered the more high budget producer, and his work with other artists (especially Peter Gabriel) is great. Ho hum...
