Crispian Mills is obviously into writing protest songs. "How much does it suc", "big bad wolf" and "Dictator (of the free world)". Personally I don't really have a problem with this even though Bush ect are obvious and easy targets but I do wonder if Crispians songs have a much needed subtle quality to them. I listened to the Jeevas version of Have you seen the rain. Now that's a great protest song that can be enjoyed on so many levels that I don't think Dictator ect can be enjoyed on. My feeling is that these songs of Crispians are just so obvious and lyrically redundent in one or two listens. Which is a great shame as I've always enjoyed the many levels that are in other Kula Shaker and Jeevas songs. Feel free to agree or disagree folks!

well i don't think crispian wrote have you ever seen the rain, im pretty sure its a cover version, which would explain any multilevel meaningful lyrics.
in my opinion the writing on k was the best and for me the most recent stuff seems to be the most lax, no real thought put into it

Yea I know "Have you ever seen the rain" is a cover. It's by Creedence Clear Water and that's why I put is as "The Jeevas version of.." and was using it as a example of a great protest song that as everything that lacks in Crispian efforts.

In my opinon the lyrics on PP&A are his best. So much is going on in those songs lyrically. However some of the B sides to the K singles are rather good like "Under the hammer" and "Raggy one (waiting for tomorrow)"

It's a mystery to me how someone can write some great many level songs about love, religon and history but when it comes to protest he's like a drunk hyped up bull in a china shop.

I hope the lyrics on "Strangefolk" are gonna keep the Kula Shaker love of magic and mysticism flag flying high and proud.

I get the feeling that with How much do you suck, and Dictator, that becuase less people will hear it, and only really the fans, they can get away with being less subtle.

And yes, some B Sides have beautiful lyrcis, also Drop in the Sea, Dance in your Shadow and Goodbye Tin Terriers (which I love more and more everytime I hear it)

Look for signs and portents...

The "Masters of war" cover is the best hands down!
Hmm.. maybe Crispian wanted to have fun with Dictator?
I don’t think most people can handle intense protest songs, especially like the ones Crispian COULD produce.
