Hello boys and girls:

today we have for you delight the Kula Shaker 2 Track demo from 1995 in lovely MP3 format. Major Kudos goes to drykid for winning this thing on eBay for an enormous amount and then entrusting it to a complete stranger. Sorry it took a little while, but I did a couple of versions and wasn't happy with the way they sounded. So links.....

Knight On The Town:

Shower Your Love:

Again, all recordings have come from tape so have been remastered for the digital age including getting them in a listenable state. Check our SYL which has an entirley different chorus section which is quite strange when compared to the eventual release.

Again many thanks to drykid for his kindness and i'll pop the tape back in the post...

thanks, that's great (impressing to see how KOTT hasn't change at all, and the live version of SYL in 2006 sounds much more like that one, than like the PPA one i think...)

smell the rose, sweet sweet rose,
catch the sun find where it grows.
smell the rose, the sweet sweet rose
that grows on castle walls in heaven.
In heaven, yeah

The demo intro of Shower Your Love reminds me of Elvis' Suspicious Minds

it reminds me of (a more recent song) the Stone Roses' Waterfall Wink

No problem - I'm just happy to share the wealth, really. No point in having something cool if there's no-one else to share it with... I haven't actually listened to El Simso's versions yet because I'm without speakers currently, but I'm sure he did a great job Smiler

Yeah, I'd never suggest that it's better than the PPA version, but it's the opportunity to hear the song in such a different form that's what makes it interesting for me. When I found out that there was a demo of SYL from '95 (but before I heard it), I was quite surprised that they'd chosen to hold onto it till the 2nd album rather than put it out on K at the first opporrtunity. But listening to the demo it's quite clear that it just wasn't quite there yet (the chorus just doesn't work; and it really needs a middle eight section), and that the band did the right thing to hold onto it until the ideas came along to allow it to reach its full potential as a song.
