Does anyone else think that thier live shows are getting heavier and rockier? I remember when they used to play tracks like Timeworm, I'm Still Here and Drop in the Sea live. Imagine that now?

After seeing them last week I thought the set was very much in two halves, the first being rocky songs which are more mainstream (Hey Dude, Hush, Highway), then as the night went on, they got more and more "Kula" (Hurricane Season, Song of Love, Great Hosannah etc)

Is it the way they want to go, or just the way they want to be seen?

Look for signs and portents...

You say they played slower, quieter tracks in the past, but they were always in the minority (maybe a couple per gig at most?) And it seems to me that "True Love Will Find You In The End" fulfills that role now. So I don't think you can say there's been a fundamental change.

It would be nice to see more of a mix though (and adding back any of the three you mention would be a great start...)
