I've been doing a bit of Googling of Kula Shaker in the bored moments of proper academic internet research and I've found several articles about the split that say Kula went on as a three piece for some time after Crispian left. I know people speculated at the time that this may happen but I never thought it actually happened. Do people on here know differently? I'm too young to remember properly!

Yes they did. However, it was work that didn't really materialise until now, mainly due to the fact they joined other bands.

sorry, i was referring to 2001ish there, during the time they got back together to jam.
In regards to the 3 of em,it wasnt necessary recording or performing as such, it was more working together on things like teaching music, production etc.
The stuff that materialised was the things Alonza was doing..i.e. his songwriting..which he later developed with Crispian.

Does that make sense? Reading it back, it doesn't to me.

It makes a weird Susheel kind of sense, but not real sense. Though I don't think that last sentence of mine makes much sense either. Thank you for the info though oh Lord of Shaker Smiler I knew about the 2001/2 stuff - they played a few club nights etc and I heard they did a bit of DJing together.

In regards to it being "shit" it sounds kind of like Shep to me and from the wee piece of Shep music I've heard that was quite cool. Nice and folky. Anyway Crispian by himself was "shit" too so there you go, no wonder they got back together, it's where they work best.

I wasn't really meaning that Alonza and the others arent' talented musicians, more that it would be a travesty to call them KS if Crispian left. Kinda like The Doors without Jim Morrisson. Makes no sense.

I see what you mean, I have quite a skewed perspective though as with my three favourite bands, tons of members have left and joined and they're still great.

I think it depends on which member it is that leaves - think of it like an organ transplant (quite literally in the case of Jay/Harry!), whereby a person doesn't lose their identity if, say, the liver is replaced. However, replace the brain...

Sometimes it works out - post-Barrett Floyd proved that - but there is a solid argument to say that they were two completely different animals (definitely the case in 1977 Smiler - I'm in fine punning form tonight!). The worst case that I can think of is post-Nigel Dodgy; an experiment best consigned to Satan's own iPod. Saying that, Sneaker Pimps come pretty close - no band should replace a female lead vocalist for a male and still trade under the same name. It's just not right!

Sneaker Pimps' "Low Five" is one of the greatest singles ever. Too bad people didn't give them a chance because the girl had left, and now they are consigned to being one hit wonders.

Anyone heard of a band Alonza and Paul were supposed to be in together called Columbus?
