Well, late one evening I happened to come across this:

http://www.talkingballs.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25210

Does anyone here know anything more about this? Or could anyone in the inner circles try and find out? It sounds really interesting!

It does sound interesting. Although I can't help but notice that every artist mentioned in that message board post has a separate 'artist' page on the official Ho Hum Records site, with the exception of Crispian (who is mentioned absolutely nowhere on there that I can see.) Which makes me suspicious that it might be something that was talked about originally (possibly because Mark Pritchard is definitely signed to the label), but subsequently fell through. As Crispian / KS projects have a habit of doing...

Interestingly enough one of the artists listed as being on that label is the same guy I was in touch with who claimed to have several unreleased Crispian solo songs (saddest of all keys etc), due to personal connections with Crispian, so I guess that backs that up at least. If only he would share them hah, perhaps they are going to be released through this label at some point?

Well that's a good sign since at least it suggests that it's possible that something might still happen. Thanks for following it up Smiler

an educated guess from me would be that it is something that he has done in collaboration with pritchard, who it seems is actually on the label, knowing what certain people are like in terms of not releasing items from their past I doubt we would get anything from Crisp as a "solo artist"

it seems like quite a small label so they have probably included his name to appear larger than they actually are.

also with the last kula album being self released and crispian having the funds to release music himself it seems that if it was something he was actively invovled in, he would probably release it himself.

just my opinion though.

Maybe the first solo album (Pi) was a collaboration with Mark. Silver Apples was, so there's no reason why the other songs from that era (except One Louder) weren't co written by Pritchard and Mills. That might be the true reason the album wasn't released at the time. Sony knocked back the record, the deal fell through and it was hard to get another deal with both artists signed to different labels. Was Mark with Warp at the time?

Good news - kind of.
After 7 myspace messages to Mark Pritchard he kindly replied saying...

"Ho Hum are/were planning to release some of the material (pi) but the whole thing is stalled at the moment which is a shame"

fingers crossed but things will probably go tits-up again knowing my luck and I probably just jinxed the whole thing by posting this message but just thought I'd let you know. Smiler

I hope that's not the case, although knowing how sensitive a topic the whole Pi thing is, pretty much anything could end up having a negative effect imho. Still it's great news that apparently there is still consideration being given to some of this material being released. Maybe that could explain why the leaking of MP3s has caused problems in the past. I mean it's hard to imagine something like old Pi recordings having much of a market outside of KS / CM fans, and if they already have them then that makes the potential audience near-zero...

I don't really buy that argument. In this day and age, people who are gonna pay are gonna pay, and those that aren't, aren't. As soon as they sold a few copies it'd be all over the net.

But I'm sure there'd be a market for say... a run of a few thousand CDs worldwide (even if it was stuff we 'already have') especially given the Japanese market. And especially in the 'fan market', many would prize having it on official CD with nice official packaging.

I agree with 2J. If you can recall, Strangefolk was leaked before the official release date (which I unashamedly downloaded because I just couldn't help myself), but I don't think it kept any of us on here from buying it when it came out. It certainly didn't keep me from buying it.

Well I'm not sure I disagree with either of you. I'm just playing devil's advocate and pointing out that artists often see these things differently. I guess if it's your own personal project then you're inevitably going to be more protective of it, and more likely to err on the side of caution.

Anyway if all this is true, then it might an at least answer a previous query about who owns these recordings. I'd have thought that someone wouldn't waste time signing with a label if they didn't think they had ownership of the recordings they intended to release.
