You know, this year is the 20th anniversary of The Stone Roses debut album and their record label is celebrating by re-releasing special versions of it. 2004 was the 10th anniversary of Definitely Maybe and Oasis put out a 10th ann. special ed. of that album AND DVD documentary looking back at the album. It's kinda sad that 2006 came and went and nobody commemorated the 10th anniversary of K. That album deserved more respect. I say we lobby for someone to do something for that album's 20th in 2016!! A special edition of K, a remastered version of K, a DVD/CD combo,a TV special, SOMETHING!
Mind you, OK Computer is considered to be like one of the most significant rock albums of all time and I don't think anything went down in 2007 for that album's 10th. So maybe record companies are just very selective. _______________________ Don't you try and talk to me |

Yeah,OK Computer was reissued along with the rest of the Radiohead catalogue, but I don't think it was to mark the anniversary or anything particularly special. It was more a case of EMI trying to bleed Radiohead's back catalogue as dry as they could, I think.
OK Computer is one of the greatest albums of that era. I kind of think of it as being the 'Dark Side of the Moon' of the 90s. Talking of obscure indie rereleases, apparently Paul Draper's working on a deluxe edition of Attack of the Grey Lantern... so just shows it does happen. That said, Mansun seem to have had a fair bit of post-career support. |

That's what they're all doing it for. Silvertone are the worst for that. The stone roses have had about 5 albums out since they split up. And they have the cheek to charge £100 for the box set which contains:- * Remastered album CD (fair enough) * Remastered Bsides CD (fair enough) * Remastered Vinyl album - this is where the scrounging little f*ckers get cheeky. The whole reason for remastering the album in the first place was because it had never been mastered for CD - only vinyl. A lot of the bass/low-end has to be taken off when mastering to vinyl, so basically there is NO difference on the vinyl release. Makes my blood boil does that! * A bunch of old "remastered" demos that still sound like they were recorded in a shed on an old tape recorder. * A USB stick containing all of the above, which probably cost them about £2 tops. No point in remastering albums IMO. Just leave them as they are. I remember waiting for the remastered 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield to be released, but was left feeling disappointed with the results. It's just people trying to fix things that aren't broken. I have just bought 'Pablo Honey', 'The Bends' and 'Ok Computer' collector's edition (2 cd, album + b-sides [ Digipack] ).

What do you think? May pick up a copy of 'The Bends' one at some point (probably when it drops in price a little) since it has an album's worth of extra songs on the second disk, and the B-Sides from that era were very high quality. No one did Bsides like 90s alternative bands. Pretty much every Mansun, Kula Shaker, Suede, Manics, Placebo, Radiohead, even Oasis (if you were into them) single became an essential purchase at one point. It's sort of a shame that this has died out a bit, since not many people release CD singles anymore. And digital downloads don't seem to be all that heavy on high-quality extra material. I suppose it's only natral, because it's the era in which I properly got into music, but I'm starting to see the 90s as a bit of a golden age. |

I think they are worth the money.
Great albums, wonderful b-sides, the new digipack edition is truly amazing. |

there's no need to remaster K, it's perfect as it is. But it's a good idea anyhow - maybe a live album with unreleased tracks from the K era?

I remember someone saying that the Wonderwall single was better than some other band's albums. It is great, Wonderwall, A live version of the Swamp Song, Round Are Way and the Masterplan! No wonder Wonderwall was such a big hit... Look for signs and portents... |

Yeah, and The Masterplan album is probably their most consistent, post-Morning Glory, record too... some great stuff on there, even if that's mostly for nostalgic reasons in my case now. Speaking of Oasis, apparently they're going to continue without Noel... I can see how that could work live, but their next studio album could be, erm, interesting! |
